Ozone Sauna Therapy

Sauna heat and ozone gas combined. You sit in a steam cabinet with your head outside it while ozone is introduced, so it’s absorbed through the skin rather than inhaled.

What is ozone sauna therapy?

Ozone sauna therapy is the combination of a sauna and ozone gas. You sit inside a sauna cabinet that induces sweating, and ozone is introduced at the same time. The design is important: the cabinet allows your head to stay outside it, which prevents you from inhaling the ozone gas.

The thinking is that when warm, wet skin is exposed to ozone, beneficial peroxides and lipid oxidation by products are created, which are associated with anti inflammatory and immune supporting effects.

How it works

The ozone sauna encourages transdermal absorption by using steam to open the pores of the skin — the body’s largest waste elimination organ.

Ozone molecules act on bacteria, viruses and fungi on the surface of the skin, and penetrate the skin to react with toxins and pathogens in blood, lymph fluid and other tissue. Oils and other compounds become ozonated during the treatment, which is why the effect is described as continuing after you leave the cabinet.

Alongside the detoxifying effect, tissue becomes more oxygenated and less inflamed. The therapy does not treat or cure any single disease; the intention is to cleanse a number of body systems so the body is better placed to look after itself.

What to expect

01

Before

Come well hydrated and avoid a heavy meal beforehand. You’ll sit in the cabinet with a towel, so bring one or use ours.

02

During

You sit comfortably inside the cabinet with everything below the head surrounded by warm, medical grade ozonated steam. As you warm up, pores and sweat glands open. Temperature, ozone concentration and duration are all adjustable to your comfort.

03

The towels

The cabinet is lined with cotton towels to absorb sweat. It’s not unusual to see discolouration on them afterwards — that’s normal.

04

After

Your skin is patted dry rather than washed. Avoid showering for two to three hours so the ozonated oils on the skin keep working. Drink plenty of water.

Before you book

Ozone should never be inhaled. This is why the cabinet is designed with the head outside it, and why we ask you not to lean into it.

Let us know if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, low blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, G6PD deficiency (favism), or are recovering from a recent heart attack or stroke. Heat therapies are not suitable for everyone and we’d rather have the conversation first.

Don’t book an ozone sauna if you’ve been drinking alcohol, and tell us if you feel unwell on the day.

Ozone Sauna FAQs

Will I breathe in the ozone?

No. The cabinet seals at the neck so your head stays in the room air throughout. This is the single most important design feature of an ozone sauna and it is not optional.

Why can’t I shower afterwards?

The oils on and in your skin become ozonated during the session and continue to work for a few hours. Showering washes them off early. Patting dry and waiting two to three hours gets you the full effect.

How does it compare to IV ozone?

Ozone sauna is described as a powerful systemic treatment that may be comparable to intravenous ozone administration, but it’s non invasive and low risk — no needles, no cannula.

How hot does it get?

Adjustable. We’ll start you conservatively on a first session and find a temperature you can sit with comfortably for the full time. It should never feel like an endurance test.

How often should I have one?

That depends on what you’re working on. Some people run a course of sessions close together, others use it as a weekly or fortnightly reset. Your practitioner will suggest a pattern.
